Overview

Overview

Trekking in the magnificent upper Mustang region is one of the most beautiful trekking experiences in the world. Watching the rugged mountain landscape, trekking through sandy trails, wandering over the caves on the cliffs, and being amazed at the crystalline skyline over the pristine mountains; all these fascinating mountain charms pour only magic.

Upper Mustang trekking is a challenging trek in terms of the infrastructural facilities. The remoteness of the mountains has resulted in the lack of good accommodation and other facilities but that is the strength of this trekking region. Staying away from all worldly luxuries for a few days amongst the most beautiful mountain landscapes is a rewarding experience.

As a controlled region, Upper Mustang trekking charges a high royalty compared to the normal trekking routes. A royalty of USD 500 is to be paid to obtain a special permit to trek into this area. Camping treks are incredible in this region although staying in basic tea houses is an option.

A trip briefing will follow later today and the time will be notified to you by the representative who picks you up from the airport. We will come to meet and brief you about the trip at the fixed time. Until then just relax or explore a bit of surrounding.

We take you for a day tour of cultural heritage monuments in Kathmandu valley after breakfast. The tour will give you a mixed insight of history, culture, art, architecture and spirituality of Kathmandu valley. The sites include; Swoyambhunath aka Monkey Temple: The oldest of all sites in Kathmandu valley, Swoyambhunath is an important Buddhist spiritual site having the history over two thousand years old. This site has gained a popular name as monkey temple as this small forested hill is a good habitat for hundreds of monkeys. The visit there will heighten your spiritual and cultural experience. Patan City including Patan Durbar Square: A tour to medieval city of Patan gives you a great insight about ethnic Newari culture, Budhhist spirituality, religious harmony, art and architecture while you stroll around the charismatic alleys taking you to magnificent local community squares known as Bahal and eventually leading you to an incredible medieval palace square. The monuments and skill of the local artisans displayed on those monuments in the square will stun you with their unbelievable charm. Boudhanath Stupa: The largest of its kind in the world, this magnificent stupa is a very important center of faith for the people following Tibetan Buddhism. This place is nice Circular Square with the stunning stupa in the middle of it which spreads a lot of spiritual vibrations around the atmosphere.

We will drive to Pokhara by tourist bus in the morning after breakfast. After driving for about seven hours through scenic countryside of Nepal, we reach an eloquently charming city of Pokhara. The drive will have enough stopovers necessary on the way. Once we reach Pokhara, the charm of the city will capture our attention for a good feeling of being amidst the natural wonders from close up Himalayas to the surrounding lakes. A lake nearby our hotel is a nice place to take an evening stroll and the lakeside town has lots of options to dine. Have an option to fly to Pokhara at an extra cost.

Take an early morning flight Himalayan flight to Jomsom from Pokhara flying past the Annapurna range and overlooking the Dhaulagiri range of the Himalaya. You will be accompanied up to Jomsom by your trekking guide and you will meet the rest of trekking crew at Jomsom. Trek to Kagbeni and stay overnight there.

Trek to Chaile today via the villages of Tangbe and Chhusang. The trail goes along the Kali Gandaki River valley past some beautiful oasis of buckwheat and barley fields. You will go past some beautiful apple orchards too. The trek is beautiful with lots of uphill walking and finally reaching to Chaile for overnight stay.

The climb continues along steep, treeless, waterless terrain, along the side of the spectacular steep canyon to a pass and cairn of rock. Then the trail makes a long gradual descent to some chortens on a ridge, and with a further descent before coming along a pleasant trail to Samar village. We climb above Samar to a ridge, then descend into a large gorge, which the trail goes into another valley field, crosses a stream and climbs up to a ridge at 3800 meters. The route climbs over yet another pass, follows a ridge and then descends to Shyangmochen. From there we gently climb to a pass at 3770meters and descend to Geling Village. Overnight at tented camp. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

From Geling village the trail climbs gently up to an interesting pass NYI LA and descends below the blue, gray and red cliffs. After crossing a steel bridge of the Tangmar Chu (river) you will arrive to a MANI WALL perhaps the longest and most spectacular MANI wall in Nepal. Climbing over another pass at 3600meters, the route makes a long gentle descent to Charang village. The huge five-story white Dzong and red Gompa are the main attractions to visit and observe collections of statues and Thankas as well as many large paintings, of seated Buddha's. Overnight at tented camp. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

This is an opportunity to visit two other villages on your trek. The trail climbs steadily until Lo-Gekar. Lo-Gekar Gompa is older than Samye Gompa in Tibet and one of the oldest Gompa of Nepal. After visiting Lo-Gekar continue trek to Lomanthang. The trail until Lo-Manthang is fine with some minor climbing. Finally from the ridge there is a view of the walled city of LO. After a short descent, cross a stream then climb up into the plateau of Lo-Manthang. Overnight at tented camp. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

It takes around 2 hours to Namgyal Gompa. Namgyal Gompa situates on a hilltop, which serves as an important monastery for the local community, also serving as a local court. After visiting Namgyal Gompa and Tingkhar return to Lomanthang. Overnight at tented camp. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

From Lo-Manthang the trail walks straight till Dhi pass 4100meters and descends down to Dhi village. Dhi village is one of the best villages of whole Lo-mathang and it seems more prosperous and it is settled in a very suitable place. Overnight at tented camp. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

From Dhi the trail goes through the river for around 2 hours and crosses a river from Damodar Kunda, one of the sacred lakes, there is no bridge on the river so we need to walk across in bare feet to cross this river. After crossing the river the trail climbs up till high above a pass of 3850meters. The trail goes through a grassless, treeless bare hill. After the pass the trail again drops directly to Tangbe village at an elevation of 3370m.Tangbe is a small village of around 30 houses but most of the houses are attached to each other. On the rooftops one can see piles of dry woods, which also reflects the prosperity in their society. Overnight at tented camp. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

The trail walks through a steep ridge of hills providing some fine views of the wind carved hills. Tetang village is formed between 2 hills; they should have found it a safe place to avoid the strong wind that hits the entire Kaligandaki valley. Tetang is the upper village of the Chuksang, which we visit on the first day entering to Mustang from Kagbeni. Overnight at tented camp. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)
